I wiped a tear as her dad held her in his arms. They danced slowly to a rendition of “My Little Girl” pre-recorded by her dad. Since Wilma’s family has always been musical and Leon plays the guitar, it was no surprise that their wedding day was full of the same. On the home farm, Wilma and Leon were married on a hilltop as the morning sun streamed warmly over the trees. 

After a few muggy days, it rained, cooling everything off. Their wedding day dawned clear and bright, (most of us were up before then, 4:00am to be exact. ) Wilma chose to get ready alone except for her family. After a sweet first look at sunrise and portraits were over, it was time for the ceremony. Leon and Wilma chose to write personal vows and share communion together. The bridal party stood on either side in hunter green dresses and black suits. 

After a delicious traditional lunch of mashed potatoes, gravy, and all the fixings, the afternoon was filled with speeches and music. Wilma, accompanied by her sister and a friend, sang a song in honor and remembrance of her aunt and namesake, Wilma, who was tragically killed almost a year before she was born. 

After opening gifts, the bridal party hung out for a while, playing ping pong in the basement. Later, they all made punch together before the guests were invited to enjoy chili soup cooked over the open fire. After more speeches, Wilma and Leon had one final last dance before making their exit through a shower of bubbles.

Leon and Wilma, thank you for allowing me to capture your special day! It was a joy both professionally and as your friend. I’m excited for everything your future holds and can’t wait to grow in our journeys together!
