The lights twinkled overhead. Guests’ quiet tones were muffled by the soft music drifting across the room. The candles were lit. Close family and friends were seated on either side of the aisle. The roses and eucalyptus draping the altar had been arranged to perfection. Everything was ready. Paul stood at the altar, waiting expectantly.

Slowly, the bridesmaids in deep forest green walked in, escorted by the groomsman. One by one, they all took their places at the altar, facing the back doors, also waiting. Then, the music changed. The moment that had been dreamed about, planned for months upon end was almost here. Paul struggled to hold his emotions in check as his bride, at her most beautiful, entered the doorway.

They had met at her first party. Not one for big crowds and lots of noise, Lorraine felt out of her element. Seemingly out of nowhere, Paul appeared at her side. Perceiving her discomfort, he did the honors and introduced her to his friends. Then, leaving the main huddle of noise, they sat in a corner and started talking. She had never found it easy to meet new people but somehow the conversation flowed. Several hours later, they said good-bye, both knowing it wouldn’t be their last meeting.

Lorraine and Paul, throughout the past several years, I’ve been a witness to the quiet change happening in each of you. Lorraine, you’ve become more confident, outgoing, and your friendship is one I hope to grow. Paul, I’ve seen a new peace and tenderness that can only come at the hands of God and a loving woman. Love is a journey and I consider it an amazing gift to be able to walk with you as friends. Keep your hearts soft through the hard times, always fighting for each other, and surrendered to God’s shaping hands. All our love.
