A crisp fall breeze blew gently and the scent of crushed leaves hung in the air as the October sun sank slowly on the horizon. I don’t LOVE  fall.  It’s not that I don’t like fall, it’s just a constant reminder that freezing temps and bitter winter weather are on their way. So to be able to spend an evening photographing an autumn family session in such lovely weather, well, I might have been a little ecstatic.

I met Brenda through mutual friends and we clicked instantly. Maybe it was because we were close to the same age and had similar interests, I’ve never told her this, “shhh,” but part of the reason might have been the fact she has great fashion sense and I had an idea I could learn a thing or two from her.  She later joined us as set director for a community play and I’ve come to really appreciate her ability to organize a group of people and delegate tasks. During practice, I was usually on the front side of the stage but whenever I had a chance I loved to sneak backstage during a scene change. I would watch in awe as a large group of cast members moved quickly and efficiently (without running into each other) to change the entire set in a matter of minutes.

It’s not often that you get to meet a family of five girls and it’s even less unusual for them not to fight. After seeing the bond the girls share and the way they look out for each other, I’m inclined to believe Caitlyn when she told me, laughing,  that they really don’t fight much. While some people know what it takes to create a great outfit, it seems to come as natural as breathing for others. That was James and Jolene’s family. The girls were effortlessly elegant in mauve and white paired with brown leather boots while James and Brittany’s husband, Mel,  kept it classic in shades of blue.

James and Jolene, thank you so much for allowing me to spend this time with your family and for the opportunity to capture these moments in your family’s life. Keep on laughing together and loving each other the way you do. Mel and Brittany, I’m not going to lie, the few minutes I had with you two were the highlight of my evening! I loved seeing you together and the way you can’t hide the fact you adore each other.
