It was 40 degrees and windy. Every so often people hurried past, bundled up in puffy winter coats, hats, and gloves. With an early but brilliant fall sun setting behind us, we hurried as fast as we could. I was wearing a thick coat and boots. Although my fingers were a little cold, I had forgotten to remind Doris to make sure she wore leggings and I could tell she was “freezing.” As the cold wind whipped around her, she bravely weathered it out while I shot as fast as I could. (Okay, that might have been a little cheesy but that kind of pun is the best kind, right? 🙂

We had originally planned to shoot quite a while longer but I could tell Doris was getting really cold. I decided to send her to the car while I shot a few last details. When I got into the car several minutes later, the heat was turned as high as it was go. I might have been a little crazy but I definitely had a trooper model! As I warmed up my stiff fingers, I was reminded of another cold shoot; but that one had been a whole wedding.

The inspiration for this fall wedding shoot was a color palette of terra cotta, gold, and a rich warm brown. I wanted an earthy, autumn feel while still keeping it classic and elegant. The invitation suite from Minted, my favorite source for wedding invitations brought in rich terra cotta tones while the classic a-line gown with its lace bodice and chiffon train kept it from feeling too rustic.
